Preparing for Hurricane Sandy
As Hurricane Sandy makes her way up the East Coast and threatens to make landfall near Atlantic City, NJ late Monday night, millions are scrambling to prepare for the worst. This hurricane is particularly dangerous, not just because of her category 1 winds of 70+ mph, but also because of the amount of rain and storm surge she is bringing.
Coastal and low-lying areas are at serious risk of severe flooding but the threat doesn’t end there. Many areas in the Baltimore/Washington vicinity are projected to receive up to 10 inches of rain. This level of rain can really cause damage if your plumbing equipment is not in proper working order.
One of your biggest assets during Hurricane Sandy will be your sump pump. If you have not already checked your sump pump to make sure it’s up to the challenge, you should do so immediately! If your sump pump fails, your home will quickly flood and you could face thousands of dollars in potential damages.
